Correlation between the popularity of the ANO brand in the Moravian-Silesian Region and the success of the elected mayor Tomáš Macura in the 2022 municipal elections

The bachelor's thesis titled Correlation between the Popularity of the ANO Brand in the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Success of Elected Mayor Tomáš Macura in the 2022 Municipal Elections is dedicated to a case study of Tomáš Macura within the framework of municipal politics in Ostrava. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the terms associated with brand, branding, political brand, and personal political brand. It is followed by a chapter on the socio-political context, where the work summarizes the ANO 2011 party's results at different political levels, with a specific focus on the Ostrava region. This chapter also addresses the rise of the ANO 2011 party, along with its history. A subsequent subsection is dedicated directly to Tomáš Macura and his political career. In the analytical part, the thesis delves into the analysis of internal party research and the media visibility of Tomáš Macura prior to the 2022 municipal elections. The result of the study reveals that both parties - Tomáš Macura and the political party ANO 2011 - benefited from their coexistence, thus creating a symbiotic relationship between them.

The thesis deals with municipal policy in České Budějovice. The main goal is to process the results of individual elections. Emphasis will be put on the comparison of election programs of candidate political entities. There will be a more detailed examination, especially the elections in the years of 2014 and 2018, due to the availability of resources, mainly through the use of social networks. Previous elections can be processed from the sources of the Czech Statistical Office, where the results are available. The work focuses on the vicissitudes that accompany municipal policy in the regional city, especially the events associated with individual leaders, which led to changes in the municipal council and affected the political scene in České Budějovice.

The thesis deals with municipal policy in Strakonice. The main goal is to compare the results of elections at years 2018 and 2019. In the theoretical part, there will be defined terms as public administration, municipal elections, political marketing and political market. After that, in the practical part, an analysis and comparison of election campaigns of candidate political entities will be performed, because due to the restriction of equal conditions of political competition, the 2018 elections were canceled by a court decision. For this reason, the basis of the work is an analysis of the means of promotion used by all candidate parties. Since the results of the municipal elections most influence the everyday life of citizenship, the conclusion of the diploma thesis is a questionnaire survey, which forms an idea of the relationship of the electorate. At the end of the work, these data will be analyzed and research questions will also be answered.

Failed Municipalities in the Czech Republic

The presented dissertation thesis deals with endangered municipalities, where a specific threat to the municipality can potentially lead to the extinction of self-government. The phenomenon of endangered municipalities has not been comprehensively investigated within the framework of political science even though it is part of the issue of the functioning of the democratic process at the local level. Research on endangered municipalities has been fragmented across individual scientific disciplines, which view the problem through their own prism. The dissertation thesis seeks to contribute to the opening of a necessary discussion that should not remain aloof from political science. The thesis first examines the European context, which is crucial for the actual identification of different types of threats to municipalities. Five types of threats to the European municipalities have been identified. Individual types of threats have been described and possible threat scenarios created. Empirical examples have also been provided for each threat, based on which terminology has been proposed that can be used in political science to examine municipalities in trouble. Coalitions of Independent Candidates in Elections to City Councils in the Czech Republic

The bachelor thesis Coalitions of Independent Candidates in Elections to City Councils in the Czech Republic deals with terms of candidacy Coalitions of Independent Candidates in elections to city councils in Czech cities and municipalities. First of all, the bachelor thesis compares conditions for candidacy of independent candidates in the Czech Republic and neighboring countries. The analysis is focused on comparison of the presence of Coalitions of Independent Candidates in Czech cities of different size. The focus is mainly on local elections 2014. Successful Coalitions of Independent Candidates has been described in details. The aim is to refer to disadvantages suffered by Coalitions of Independent Candidates in larger cities. The disadvantage is, that Coalitions of Independent Candidates have to produce petition with 7 % signatures of voters from the city, where they want to candidate. Despite this disadvantage is majority of Czech councilors elected from the Coalitions of Independent Candidates.

Diploma thesis Municipal Secessions after 1989 in District of Česká Lípa deals with a wave of disintegration of municipalities which took place immediately after a restoration of democracy in the Czech Republic. The thesis discusses the following subjects: the development of municipal administration in the Czech lands, the current position and function of municipality, basic aspects of democratization on a local level, territorial fragmentation, local development, the concept of secession, and legislative conditions for the foundation of new municipalities in the Czech Republic and administrative development in the district of Česká Lípa on which is this paper focused. The work aims to answer the main research question: What are the political aspects of the process of municipal seccesions after 1989 in the district of Česká Lípa? The principal motives of this secession, the major players in the process, how public opinion was measured, the existence of cross- cutting cleavages in public opinion, the present-day situation assessment, a real change of the level of development and formal aspects of the process will be studied. The aim of this diploma thesis Transforming of Executive Coalitions in Prague in the Electoral Period 2010 - 2014 is to analyze influences, which have an important role in a process of establishing executive coalitions and also in their stability. The analysis is based on a classical theory of coalitions, discursive analysis, interviews with direct participants and on official documents. One of the aims is to describe the level of possibility in application of theoretical concepts of coalition theory in the area of Prague's political system. There are many points of view, from which we look at stability and forming of coalitions. For example, very important point of view is an influence of making and implementing politics or an influence of politicians from national level. A big importance is focused on negotiating between participants, their statements in media and their real steps and decisions. The intention of this thesis is not an invention of general model which should be applied on similar local system, but to explain and describe the uniqueness of Prague local system and the election period of 2010 - 2014.

Direct Mayor Elections in Europe

The master's thesis "Direct election of mayors in the European experience" is dealing with the direct election of mayors, which is being used in more than a half of the European countries. The focus of the thesis is the trend and the impacts of the direct election of mayors. The purpose is to find out, if the direct election of mayors causes an increase in the voter's turnout, if there are cases of divided majorities under the direct election of mayors and if those are causing issues with the system functioning. Lastly, if the direct election of mayors is a trend which is going to spread into further countries. The first theoretical part deals with the phenomenon of the direct election of mayors, the leadership theories at the local level, typologies of local systems and brings a theoretical basis for the analysis of the voter turnout and divided majorities. The second part contains an overview of the European countries according to the direct or indirect method of voting for their mayors and also case studies of chosen countries. In the cases of England, Norway, Croatia, Poland, Italy, Austria and Germany the voter turnout, the frequency of divided majorities and the functioning of a system under divided majorities is analyzed.
